This documentary project demanded a radically different visual approach from standard corporate motion design. The subject called for an editorial, narrative treatment with a handcrafted aesthetic evoking ink drawing and manual illustration.
The brief: a film in ink style that tells a story with the power of line and the emotion of movement. The result had to sit somewhere between animated documentary and art piece.
Our art director developed a unique ink visual style: Chinese ink strokes, digital watercolour, paper textures. Every frame is treated as an illustration coming to life - ink flows, shapes emerge, the drawing builds before the viewer’s eyes.
The animation uses morphing techniques between illustrations: a face transforms into a landscape, a writing hand gives birth to a city. These poetic transitions create a continuous, hypnotic narrative flow.
The minimalist sound design - quill scratches, paper rustling, acoustic music - reinforces the handcrafted, intimate character of the film.
An animated documentary film that demonstrates Nexia’s versatility beyond corporate motion design. The ink style proves that animation can serve editorial and documentary narratives with as much power as traditional video.
The film is a portfolio piece that positions Nexia in the documentary animation space - a fast-growing segment.
